Hunger vs Appetite

Apr 14, 2022 | Immune Health

What’s the difference between hunger vs. appetite?

Appetite is the natural desire a person feels to eat food. It differs from hunger, the body’s response to not having enough food. So, a person can be hungry with no appetite, have an appetite with no signs of hunger, or be hungry with an appetite. Here are a few tips to help curb hunger:

1. Get plenty of rest. Sleep influences hunger and satiety cues.

2. Incorporate rest days into your exercise routine. Rest days are crucial to help reduce the increase in urges to eat caused by increased inflammation, among other benefits.

3. Stay well hydrated. Aim for half your body weight (in pounds) as the minimum ounces per day.

4. Keep blood sugar balanced by eating every 3-4 hours.

Your hunger cues are based on your DNA. I can help increase your confidence in achieving your health goals with decreased hunger.
